Physical Therapy

The physical therapist develops, coordinates, and utilizes selected knowledge and skill in planning, organizing and directing programs for the care of individuals whose ability to function is impaired or threatened by injury or disease.

After a complete evaluation, the physical therapist determines the degree of impairment and provides an individual plan of treatment necessary for achieving maximum independence. Therapeutic procedures used by the physical therapist may include:

  • Pain management: the application of physical agents to relieve pain resulting from trauma or neurological impairment, allowing for the facilitation of motor activity and learning.
  • Therapeutic exercises: to strengthen specific weaknesses, increase range of motion, and coordinate affected extremities.
  • Gait training: for those who have mobility deficits.

In order to ensure and maintain the achieved level of independence, the physical therapist is responsible for establishing a specialized restorative program to maintain the maximum level of independence to meet the needs of each patient.

Plumley Rehabilitation Center offers a state-of-the-art gymnasium that is fully equipped to accommodate these services.
