PARIS, TN – During the Department Director’s meeting on Thursday, October 25, HCMC Administration recognized Jacki O’Brien, HCMC Director of Infection Control/Education and Wound Care as Department Director of the Quarter.
Lisa Casteel, CEO, presented O’Brien with the recognition during the meeting noting her recent accomplishments related to education and infection control including her recognition by the Tennessee Hospital Association for her presentation on Clostridium Difficile (Cdif) statistics for HCMC which were better than benchmark.
“We, at HCMC, are patient focused, have safety in mind, and want our community to be healthy,” said Casteel. “We are glad to participate in initiatives that continue to “Grow Us Forward” in reaching these goals. And, a Director with the knowledge and determination like Jackie, pushes us along this path.”
O’Brien has been with HCMC since January 2017. During her tenure here she has taken on many tasks to streamline our education process, review all infection control processes and policies as well as help with many other tasks involving our partners. She played a major role in helping with the success of our Benefits Fair and our annual Partner Screenings. O’Brien and her staff devoted many hours to ensuring all the data was updated and correct to send out results to each partner and their spouses who screened.
“Jacki is a very knowledgeable and experience RN and we are very lucky to have her on our team,” said Billie McKee, Chief Human Resources Officer.
O’Brien was recruited and relocated to Paris, TN from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has two adult children, one daughter, Ashley who lives in Ann Arbor Michigan with 4 grandchildren, and a son, Eugene, who relocated here with his fiancé, and they have two daughters, Talia, age 3 years and Aylah, 6 months.
O’Brien attended Waynesburg University for her bachelors and completed her Masters in nursing in 2008. She started her career as a nursing assistant in 1987, completed her associate degree and worked as a charge nurse, an adjunct faculty for Allegheny Community College and Waynesburg University, a nursing supervisor, a staff development coordinator, an infection preventionist at UPMC St. Margaret in Pittsburgh, and most recently System Director of Infection prevention in Marietta Georgia for Wellstar Health System, and Christus Health in Corpus Christi, Texas. All combined, she has worked in nursing and healthcare for 31 years.
“I was searching for a community that would welcome my family and myself and enable me to utilize my professional skills to make healthcare encounters within our community safer for our patients,” said O’Brien. ”Paris, Tennessee has been a wonderful choice and I look forward to many years of working with the fantastic team that exists here at HCMC.”
