Henry County Medical Center Feels Impact of Loss of Community Leader, Humanitarian and Orthopaedic Surgeon Eugene Gulish

Paris, TN – Henry County Medical Center Board of Trustees, Administration, and staff were saddened to learn of the loss of long-time orthopaedic surgeon, Eugene Gulish, MD.  Dr. Gulish served the Henry County community with his healing hands and generous spirit for over 20 years, coming to HCMC from Sebastopol, California in 1994.

Dr. Gulish is credited for pioneering orthopaedic care in Henry County and the surrounding region.  He provided care at Henry County Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine on Kelley Drive until his retirement from HCMC in 2017.

“Dr. Gulish brought to our community Orthopaedic Practices that took our medical community to the next level which resulted in our Medical Center becoming a strong orthopaedic center,” said Debbie Jelks, Director of Rehabilitation Services at HCMC. “I attribute Dr. Gulish’s dedication and persistence in the beginning of his solo practice setting the stage for our Medical Center having the phenomenal orthopaedic services it has today.”

“I worked in the OR with Dr. Gulish from 1998 until he left our facility,”  said Angie Dodd, Co-Director of Surgical Service. “Dr. Gulish cared about building relationships with the staff at HCMC and the citizens of Henry County beyond the work environment. He cared about our families, we celebrated weddings, mourned at funerals and enjoyed parties just to be together. We spent late nights in the OR for sure, but if you had to be there late with anyone, that team was the best. We truly were a family. He was already missed greatly here, but will be missed in our community as well. We love you Dr. Gulish.”

Dr. Gulish not only provided orthopedic care regionally, he was well-known for his humanitarian work, traveling across the globe to help others.

Dr. Gulish was born in Curtice, Ohio.  He attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate and the Ohio State University for his medical degree.  He completed his residency at Los Angeles County General Hospital.  After completing his residency, he was drafted to serve in the Army as an Orthopaedic Surgeon during the Vietnam War.

HCMC celebrates his life and contributions to Henry County and the region.  Condolences go to his family during this difficult time.
