Healthcare Foundation and HCMC to Offer Better Breathers Club Beginning March 20

Paris, TN – Living with a chronic lung disease can be easier. Since people with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or other lung diseases, such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, can often feel alone and isolated, the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation and HCMC is starting a monthly support group to bring people together to learn skills to help manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

Better Breathers Clubs are welcoming support groups for individuals with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer, and their caregivers. Learn better ways to better cope with lung disease while getting the support of others in similar situations. HCMC and the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation will be providing trained facilitators to give you the tools you need to live the best quality of life you can. The HCMC Better Breathers Club will begin meeting every 3rd Monday of each month in the HCMC Cafeteria from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and feature educational presentations on a wide range of relevant topics, including:

  • How COPD affects the lungs
  • Breathing techniques
  • Exercise
  • Talking with your physician
  • Medications and other treatment options
  • Medical tests
  • Supplemental oxygen
  • Home healthcare
  • Lung transplants
  • Air pollution

The first meeting of the Better Breathers Club will be Monday, March 20. HCMC and the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation in conjunction with the Delta Rural Network Initiative are offering this new support group based on the large amount of chronic health issues related to lung diseases and the lack of resources available in the region. This support group will serve as a way to provide those resources to these patients and their families. You don’t have to feel alone or isolated. It feels good to talk with others who understand—and that can have a positive impact on your health.
