Paris, TN – When there is a need, there is a way and at Henry County Medical Center we are fortunate to have an active and caring Volunteer Auxiliary willing to support the organization and the needs we have as we continue to grow.

Roger Veazey, Director of Patient Access and Jeff Tucker, HCMC In Hone Equipment + Supplies saw a need for more wheelchairs within the organization to transport patients.  With the addition of new physicians and services like the HCMC Paris Pulmonary Clinic opening the first of April, Veazey and Tucker went to the HCMC Volunteer Auxiliary and requested that the organization purchase wheelchairs.

“The volunteer auxiliary is usually the first people who meet our patients at the front door and they are constantly tracking down wheelchairs to transport patients for our organization,” said Veazey.  “I knew we would have additional needs for wheelchairs and transports as pulmonology came on board and with our growth in our OB/GYN services.  The auxiliary jumped on the opportunity to help us and we are very appreciative to them.”

The HCMC Auxiliary purchased an initial six wheelchairs in March for the organization.  With this purchase, Henry County Medical Center committed to purchasing an additional two chairs per quarter for the next year to bring our total of new chairs to 14.

The Volunteer Auxiliary at Henry County Medical Center is comprised of nearly 50 volunteers that serve across the organization. Auxiliary volunteers offer their time, talent and dedication throughout the hospital in patient care and clerical settings. Our volunteers come from unique backgrounds and share the common interest in helping others.

The HCMC Auxiliary Volunteers not only give their time to the organization, they also participate in many special projects including making Christmas stockings for babies born in December, collecting items to donate to the Henry County Family Resource Center, and making surgery caps for children having outpatient surgeries.

Additionally, the Auxiliary Volunteers raise funds through the Pink Petal Gift Shop, jewelry sales, and other special projects to purchase non-budgeted items requested by HCMC and HCHC as funds allow. The wheelchair donation is one example of how funds from the Volunteer Auxiliary are used to make patient care better at HCMC.

The HCMC Volunteer Auxiliary is always looking for additional volunteers. Applications are located in the Pink Petal Gift Shop and the HCMC Marketing office.
