HCMC Honors Volunteer Auxiliary with Luncheon

PARIS, TN – On April 25, 2018, Henry County Medical Center administration honored the Volunteer Auxiliary by providing a volunteer appreciation luncheon. The luncheon began with a warm welcome from Lisa Casteel, CEO. Casteel expressed her gratitude for our auxiliary volunteers by reading the following quote from an unknown author.

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in,” said Casteel.

She stated that in serving the hospital, each volunteer makes an impact on the community every single day.

Casteel went on to read a list of outstanding accomplishments made by the auxiliary volunteers this year including the addition of three new members and six honorary members.  The auxiliary members took great strides financially this year and participated in many community projects. These projects included purchasing 125 comfort bears for surgery patients, collecting over 200 items for the Henry County Back to School Blast, made and delivered 40 Christmas stockings to babies born at the Women’s Center, and sewed surgery caps for nurses and youth to be worn during surgeries, to name a few.

Two successful jewelry sale fundraisers took place this year, one in November (2017) and one in early April (2018). The April sale was the most profitable spring sale to date, raising $4,018. In addition to the record-setting jewelry sale fundraiser, the HCMC Volunteer Auxiliary was able to provide scholarships to community members. Three, $2,000 auxiliary scholarships were awarded to Henry County High School graduates who intend to pursue studies in the medical field.

Thus far in 2018, over 13,000 volunteer hours have been reported and completed by HCMC Auxiliary members. HCMC administration, partners and patients appreciate the hard work, dedication and loyalty the volunteers provide the hospital and community.
