Dr. Chandler Invites Public to Help Commemorate Medical Milestone with Meet & Greet at HCMC

In the world of robotic surgery, Dr. Blake Chandler has reached a new milestone – as an orthopedic surgeon he has performed 500 robotic hip and knee surgeries.

Dr. Chandler is inviting the public to help celebrate this technology and the benefits it offers patients at a meet and greet on Wednesday, July 24 from 11 am- 1 pm in the lobby of Henry County Medical Center (HCMC).

Dr. Chandler and the robot will feature hands-on demonstrations. “The robot will help people visualize how the technology is utilized during surgery. It’s the key to creating the pinpoint precision that provides faster recovery times, shorter hospital stays and less pain,” said the surgeon.

“I look forward to seeing former patients, as well as individuals who have questions about robotic hip and knee surgery,” said Dr. Chandler, an affiliate of West Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic who sees patients in Paris and Union City.

Dr. Chandler said he’s holding this event at HCMC because “they are such a vital partner.” In 2015, after seeing this technology in action, he asked the hospital to purchase a Mako robot. “They took this bold step,” said Dr. Chandler, who became one of the first surgeons in West Tennessee to offer this surgery option and is now one of the most experienced surgeons using robotic technology in the state.

The Mako robot provides the surgeon with a patient-specific 3-D model to pre-plan the replacements. During surgery, Dr. Chandler guides the Stryker robotic-arm based on the patient-specific plan. This helps him to focus on removal of diseased bone, helping preserve healthy bone and assists in positioning the implant based on the patient’s anatomy.

Dr. Chandler has created two videos that discuss the benefits of robotic surgery.  They can be viewed on YouTube by searching “Dr. Blake Chandler.”

West Tennessee Bone & Joint Clinic is one of the region’s most highly respected practices for orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries, sports medicine, interventional pain management, and hand injuries and disorders.
