AHA and THA Recognizes HCMC’s Commitment to Quality

Paris, TN – Henry County Medical Center was recognized recently for making substantial improvements to key areas of quality of care and patient safety, according to the Tennessee Hospital Association.

The CMS Hospital Improvement and Innovation Network (HIIN) collected data from September 2016 to March 2020 and during that period HCMC was found to have made major strides in reducing hospital-acquired conditions and patient readmissions.

Neely Ashby, HCMC’s Chief Nursing Officer, called the recognition by THA and the American Hospital Association an honor shared by all of the hospital staff.

“This accomplishment speaks to the dedication and commitment of our hospital staff to provide excellent, evidenced based, patient-centered care to every patient every day,” Ashby said.

HIIN consisted of approximately 1,600 hospitals; 34 states; regional and local hospital associations; and six Quality Innovation Network – Quality Improvement Organizations (QIN-QIOs). It was among the largest unified endeavors aimed to reducing all-cause preventable harm by 20% and readmissions by 12%.

According the data released by THA, HCMC and other participating hospitals contributed to: 16,075 lives saved, 151,734 fewer patient harms, and $1.233 billion in cost savings.

HCMC outperformed the state in every measure in the program.  These results were achieved through the continuous dedication and commitment of HCMC to improve patient safety through peer mentoring, and share best practices and success stories, while simultaneously receiving coaching, education and peer-to-peer connections.
