    Better Breathers Club
    2:00pm - 3:00pm
    Better Breathers Clubs are welcoming support groups for individuals with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer, and their caregivers.  Learn better ways to better cope with lung disease while getting the support of others in similar situations. HCMC and the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation will be providing trained facilitators to give you the tools you need to live the best quality of life you can.   The HCMC Better Breathers Club will begin meeting every 3rd Monday of each month in the HCMC Cafeteria from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and feature educational presentations on a wide range of relevant topics, including:
    • How COPD affects the lungs
    • Breathing techniques
    • Exercise
    • Talking with your physician
    • Medications and other treatment options
    • Medical tests
    • Supplemental oxygen
    • Home healthcare
    • Lung transplants
    • Air pollution
    You don't have to feel alone or isolated.  It feels good to talk with others who understand—and that can have a positive impact on your health.   For more information on the new Better Breathers Club, call the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation at 721-644-8215.

    Henry County Office on Aging Talk – Chronic Disease Management

    The Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation and GrowWell West TN will be at the Henry County Office on Aging to discuss the Chronic Disease Management program they offer.  Join Tina Umstead, LPN, as she discusses how to manage chronic conditions and the services she offers through the program.  The event is free and open to all seniors. The talk is free to Henry County Office on Aging attendees.

    Wednesday, October 31, 2018 HCMC Classrooms 2 & 3 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Our Chronic Disease Management Program offers screening including total lipid panel, blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI  and A1c.  if a person has a chronic condition , smokes or is overweight, they can join the program for free. Participants are screened every three months and receive education about their chronic conditions.   Anyone can show up the day of the screening to join the program.  All patients must be fasting for 8 hours to participate in the screening.     Living Well wtih Chronic Conditions Workshop
    11:30am - 2:30pm
    Tuesdays starting Feb. 5 for 6 weeks from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the HCMC Classrooms 2 & 3 If you or someone you love has health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, cancer, chronic bronchitis, high blood pressure or other chronic diseases, the Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshops can help you take control of your life. By participating in a six-session workshop, you will learn ways to:
    • Manage your symptoms
    • Communicate better with your doctor, family members and friends
    • Lessen your anger and frustration
    • Fight fatigue and pain
    • Build confidence
    • Manage stress and learn to relax
    • Discover better nutrition and exercise choices
    • Manage medications
    • Get more out of life!
    Spaces are limited for the 2-hour workshop, held each week for six weeks by certified leaders with health conditions themselves. Cost is free and open to anyone with a chronic condition.  Spouses, family member and caregivers are welcome to attend.  Each workshop participant receives the book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and a relaxation CD.     Take Charge of Your Diabetes Workshop
    5:00pm - 7:00pm
    Thursdays starting Feb. 7 through March 14, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in HCMC Classrooms 2 & 3 Diabetes is a complicated disease that can strike fear, confusion, and helplessness in diagnosed people and caregivers. People with diabetes must deal not only with their disease, but also with the impact this has on their lives and emotions. A self-management approach to diabetes education gives people the knowledge, tools and confidence to take day to day responsibility of their diabetes care. The Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation and Henry County Medical Center will be offering a free Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program workshop.   The 6-week program is designed for people with diabetes and caregivers to learn basic skills necessary to self-manage their diabetes and work effectively with their healthcare professionals. The Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program is led by educators certified by Stanford University Diabetes Self-Management Program Master Trainers.  Classes will be held every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Spaces are limited for the 2-hour workship.  The workshop is offered by the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation Delta Rural Health Initiative.     Cardiac Rehab Nutrition Class

    Ever wondered if you are selecting the best food choices for your heart?

    Henry County Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehab as well as Food & Nutrition Services is offering you the opportunity to learn what to eat for a healthy heart thanks to the Paris-Henry County Healthcare Foundation. The class is free and you receive a FREE Nutrition Book to take home.  The class is limited to 24 participants and Cardiac Rehab patients have first priority to attend the class.  Please, we ask you leave children at home.  The cost for this class is free.     Blood Pressure Checks – Henry County Office on Aging

    HCMC Community Educator and/or Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation Chronic Disease Nurse Case Manager will be available to take your blood pressure and discuss the results with you on the first and third Tuesday mornings of each month (schedule could be modified due to holidays).
