October 9-15 Is Healthcare Centeral Service Sterile Processing Week

                                  October 9-15 is Healthcare Central Service/Sterile Processing Week  

Paris, TN – During the week of October 9-15, Henry County Medical Center recognizes our Central Service/Sterile Processing Partners who work diligently in our Surgery Department, making sure the environment is sterile. They take an active role in patient safety and cleanliness.  

According to the Association of Healthcare Central Service management web site, www.iahcsmm.org, the theme of this year’s celebration and recognition of October 9-15 is “It All Starts Here.”  

The organization states the roles and responsibilities of a Sterile Processing Technician include:
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Infection Control
  • Decontamination Processing
  • Patient Care
  • Equipment
  • Preparatory Packaging and Instrumentation Sterilization
  • Medical Terminology
  • Sterilization Sterile Storage Inventory Control and Distribution
  • Endoscope training
  • Latest methods for manual and mechanical processing of Endoscopes
  • Medical Supply Technician Training  
A central sterile technician is a medical professional who specializes in stocking, sterilizing, packaging, and preparing the tools and equipment that are used in surgical procedures.   

They learn and perform all aspects of sterile processing functions with basic surgical instrumentation in the health care workplace. Courses and studies are designed to prepare students to take the CBSPD exam as well as provide hands on clinical experience.
